Hello, EEUTs!
As the weather warms up, spring is right around the corner. Various flowers are starting to bloom, signaling the arrival of spring.🌸
Every spring, people living in Korea prepare for a trip to the beautiful floral spots in the country.
Because Korea has four seasons, you can see different flowers throughout the year, and some seasonal flowers only bloom for just about a week.
Visiting fields full of blooming flowers fills your heart with wholesome joy, feeling like something new is beginning.
Do you like flowers too?
As March begins with spring, we hope our busy EEUTs can also feel the change of seasons and the blooming flowers. ♥️
Flowers Welcoming Early Spring After Surviving the Cold
Different countries have their own "first blooming flowers."
In Korea, the representative spring-welcoming flowers are 동백(camellia), 매화(plum blossoms), and 유채(canola flowers).
These flowers bloom in early spring after enduring the winter cold, and news of their blossoming is already coming from the southern regions, including Jeju Island!
If you want to welcome spring with blooming flowers, visiting famous festivals across the country is a great idea!
▶Plum Blossoms Welcoming the Joy of Spring!
In Korea, 매화(plum blossoms), 난초(orchids), 국화 (chrysanthemums), and 대나무(bamboo) have been traditionally called the 'Four Gentlemen(or Four Noble Ones)'.
Plum blossoms are truly special! They’re admired for their noble charm and strong spirit, blooming with lovely, fragrant flowers even in the chilly days of late winter and early spring.
They start blooming in February, first appearing on Jeju Island before spreading to southern regions like Jeollanam-do.
Especially in Gwangyang, you can enjoy a fantastic plum blossom colony spanning 198,000㎡!

▶Camellias and Canola Flowers Paint Jeju Island in Color
Every early spring, my mother always talks about Jeju Island. It’s such a lovely time as Jeju transforms into "Camellia Island"! Plus, the vibrant fields of yellow canola flowers make the island even more stunning.
Jeju is also a beautiful volcanic island. Its impressive stone walls made of basalt, combined with the colorful blooming flowers, create an absolutely breathtaking view! 🥰
There are many flower colonies in Jeju, but we recommend visiting Hueree Natural Park, where you can see various flowers according to the season!

▶Cornus Officinalis Flower: A Beautiful Symbol of 'Eternal Love'!
What comes to your mind when you think of 'yellow flowers'? Forsythia, sunflowers, dandelions... There are many flowers associated with yellow.
Drum roll, please! Let me introduce you to a lovely spring flower that stands for eternal love: the Cornus officinalis(in Korean, Sansuyu)! These adorable little yellow blooms come out in such amazing numbers that it looks like someone spilled a bright yellow watercolor all over the place. Isn't that just beautiful?
The three most famous places for Cornus officinalis in Korea are Gurye, Icheon, and Uiseong. Among these, the Sansuyu Flower Festival in Gurye is an event that takes place on a large scale every year, with festivities spread across a wide area at the county level.

Spring Flower Festivals are Just Beginning! Cherry Blossoms Expected to Fully Bloom in Early April
On the 24th, the Korea Forest Service announced the '2025 Spring Flower Tree Blooming Prediction Map'. This year's spring trees are expected to bloom later than last year.
Especially cherry blossoms and other flowering trees are expected to bloom nationwide in early April, starting from Jeju Island in mid-March and moving through the southern regions.
Accordingly, various flower festivals are planned for April as well! However, if temperatures rise significantly in March, flowers may bloom earlier than predicted!
▶A Feast of Azaleas Painting the Mountains Violet-Pink
Korea is a country where 70% of its land is mountainous. Azaleas grow in clusters on mountains and fields at heights of 50-2,000m across the country.
Every early April, Youngchui Mountain in Yeosu, Jeollanam-do, becomes a field of violet-pink azaleas. Especially climbing from the middle to the top of the mountain, filled with azaleas, can make you feel like you're in paradise.
Azaleas love sunlight, and the Youngchui Mountain has no tall trees, making it even better for flower viewing.☀️ The best spots are said to be near the rocky peaks and Jinrae Peak, just below the summit!

Wednesday, March 5, is '경칩[Gyeongchip]', a Korean seasonal division. It means the day when frogs wake up from their winter sleep.
Once upon a time, 경칩 was seen as a special time when everything started to wake up again! It signified the end of winter's chill and the beautiful arrival of new life and energy all around us.
As we begin to enjoy the energizing feeling of spring, let's take a moment to appreciate the beautiful flowers blooming along the roadside. 🌸
